BioDiesel in manchester
There is now a forecourt in Manchester where you can buy biodiesel. We
have now secured a lease on a forcourt near Piccadilly station and are
open for business. So come and fill up!
Some things you should know ...
* Our B5 fuel can be used in ANY diesel vehicle without affecting the
warranty.
* There is no need to convert your vehicle to use biodiesel and biodiesel
can be mixed in ANY ratio with normal diesel.
* Your company can set up a credit account with us - we can offer a
discount for fleet users.
* Our forecourt is the first in Greater Manchester to sell biodiesel from
a pump.
* We are literally yards from Manchester Piccadilly station and very easy
to find.
* Biodiesel is a fuel made primarily from vegetable oil, and because it
comes from plants it is a largely renewable fuel - unlike mineral diesel.
* Biodiesel produces between 30% and 80% less carbon dioxide than mineral
diesel and it contributes less to climate change.
* Our biodiesel comes from used cooking oil and virgin rape seed oil.
Rix
Biodiesel in Hull is our supplier of B5.
* You may have read that biodiesel can be made from palm oil, produced
at
the expense of tropical rain forest. We are opposed to this for ecological
and quality reasons and have already refused to buy fuel from a UK
supplier because of this.
Benefits of Membership
At the time of writing (early January) we are selling B5 a 5% blend of
biodiesel with 95% normal diesel. However, by the end of January 2006
we
also aim to be selling B100 or 100% biodiesel. To buy anything more that
5% you will need to be a member of Manchester Biodiesel Cooperative. As
a
member you will receive advice about the optimum percentage of biodiesel
for your vehicle. We will also remind you when filters need changing and
when your services are due. Even better you will be helping our
cooperative get off the ground and actively helping stop climate change.
Membership is £10 per year for individuals and covers up to three
vehicles. Membership for small voluntary and not for profit organisations
is £15 per year.
News
In addition to the success of finally moving into our new premises, three
large community groups namely East Manchester Community Transport, Greater
Manchester Accessible Transport Limited (better know as 'Ring and Ride')
and Community Transport Manchester are all planning to run their fleets
on
B5. Manchester Van Hire have opened an account with us.

Volunteers Needed
We need volunteers to do a variety of job ranging from painting to
researching the ethical provenance of the stock we sell in the shop.
